Anti-Malate dehydrogenase recognizes the protein malate dehydrogenase, an oxidoreductase that catalyzes the oxidation of malate to oxaloacetate with the concomitant reduction of NAD+ to NADH. This reaction occurs in various metabolic pathways, the most notable being the citric acid cycle and gluconeogenesis. Two isoforms of malate dehyrogenase exist in eukaryotes localized in either the cytoplasm or mitochondrial the matrix.
