- Inorganic sulfate is one of the most abundant anions in mammalian plasma. Sulfate plays important physiological roles in activating and detoxifying xenobiotics, steroids, neurotransmitters, and bile acids. Sulfate is needed for the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans,cerebroside sulfate, and heparin sulfate. Undersulfation of cartilage proteoglycans has been associated with human inherited osteochondrodysplasia disorders. In mammals, sulfate homeostasis is regulated by the kidney. The majority of filtered sulfate is absorbed in theproximal tubules, and only 5-20% of the filtered load is excreted into the urineSample Type:Biological fluids such as serum and urineIntended Use:Direct Assays: inorganic sulfate in serum and urine.Pharmacology: effects of drugs on sulfate metabolism.Range:0.02-2mM (0.19-19.2mg/dL)Test Principle:This Sulfate BioAssay kit is designed to measure sulfate concentration in biological fluids such as serum and urine. The improved method utilizes the quantitative formation of insoluble barium sulfate in polyethylene glycol. The turbidity which is measured as optical density between 540-610nm (recommended 600nm), is an accurate measure of the sulfate level in the sample.Kit Components:Reagent A, 1x25ml Reagent B, Powder, 1x2.4gTCA Reagent, 1x25ml Sulfate Standard, 60mM, 1x1mlStorage and Stability:Store powder at 4°C liquid at -20°C. Store other components at 4°C. Stable for at least 6 months For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
