Calpains are cytosolic，calcium-dependent，cysteine proteases that are ubiquitously expressed in mammalian and avian tissues. Type I calpain requires micromolar amounts of calcium，while type II calpain requires millimolar amounts of calcium.

Western blotting （0.5-4 ug/ml）. However， the optimal concentrations should be determined individually. The anti-calpain I antibody recognizes the large subunit （80 kDa） of human Calpain I. It does not recognize the smaller subunit of human Calpain I.
