G16 is the only heterotrimeric G protein with a restricted expression pattern in hematopoietic cells. Differentiation of promyelocytic cells leads to decreased expression of G16. The G protein is known to couple a large number of G protein-coupled receptors to PLC-B and can lead to production of the secondary messengers diacylglycerol and inositol phosphates. Targeted deletion of G15,a mouse orthologue of human G16,causes reduced C5 receptor signaling. G16 serves as a marker,in addition to CD34,for hematopoietic progenitor cells.

Western blotting (0.5-4 ug/ml) and in Immunohistochemistry (5-20 ug/ml). However, the optimal conditions should be determined individually. The antibody detects G15 in samples from human, mouse, rat, and rabbit origins. It also detects G16 from samples of human origin. Reactivity to other species has not been determined.
