- C-reactive protein (CRP) is an annular, pentameric protein found in the blood plasma, the levels of which rise in response to inflammation. Its physiological role is to bind to lysophosphatidyl- choline expressed on the surface of dead or dying cells (and some types of bacteria) in order to activate the complement system via the C1Q complex. CRP is synthesized by the liver in response to factors released by macrophages and fat cells. It is not related to C-peptide or protein C. The rat CRP gene encodes a 230 amino acid (aa) precursor with a signal peptide of 19aa and the mature polypeptide of 211aa. Rat CRP shares 64% and 70% aa sequence homology with human and mouse CRP respectively. Rat CRP is a glycoprotein and contains a covalently linked dimer in the pentameter. Sample Type:Serum and plasmaIntended Use:The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative measurement of CRP in rat serum, plasma; and other biological fluids not being tested.Sensitivity:29pg/mlRange:163.8-40,000pg/mlSpecificity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of rat CRP.Precision:Intra CV<10%; Inter CV <15%Test Principle:This assay employs the fast quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for Rat CRP has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards, samples and rat CRP mix are pipetted into the wells and any CRP present is bound by the immobilized antibody. Following a wash to remove any unbound reagent, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CRP bound in the initial step.
