- Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by a variety of cells. It acts on a wide range of tissues, exerting growth-induction, growth-inhibition, and differentiation respectively, depending on the nature of the target cells. IL-6 is involved in B-cell differentiation, acute phase protein induction in liver cells, growth promotion of myeloma cells, induction of IL-2 and IL-2 receptor expression, proliferation and differentiation of T cells, enhancement of IL-3-induced multipotential colony cell formation in hematopoietic stem cells.Sample Type:Serum and plasmaIntended Use:The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative measurement of IL-6 in rat serum, plasma; and other biological fluids not being tested.Sensitivity:100pg/mlRange:327.7-80,000pg/mlSpecificity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of rat IL-6Precision:Intra CV<10%; Inter CV <15%Test Principle:This assay employs the fast quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for rat IL-6 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards, samples and rat IL-6 mix are pipetted into the wells and any IL-6 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. Following a wash to remove any unbound reagent, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IL-6 bound in the initial step.
