- Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is a glycoprotein found in plasma. It is a member of the serine proteinase inhibitor (serpin) superfamily. PAI-1 is activated by the glycoprotein vitronectin. Vitronectin binds to PAI-1 and modulates fibrinolysis and cell migration (5). This binding has proven to be an important inhibitor of the activated form of protein C (APC) (6). PAI-1 is the primary inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) and the urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA). This inhibition exhibits antiproteolytic properties that can lead to myocardial infarction, thromboembolic disease with elevated levels of PAI-1. PAI-1 is thought to play a role in the function of tissue remodeling, angiogenesis, hemostasis, tumor metastasis, fibrionlysis, ovulation, embryonic development and inflammation (1). The elevation of PAI-1 has shown to correlate with the prognosis of many cancers including breast cancer (2,3,4).Storage and Stability:Store P4256-37A and P4256-37C at -70°C. Store the remaining components at 4°C. Kit is stable for 6 months.
