- This gene encodes an autoimmunogenic tumor antigen thatnbelongs to the ESO/LAGE family of cancer-testis antigens. Thisnprotein is expressed in a wide array of cancers including melanoma,nbreast cancer, bladder cancer and prostate cancer. This protein isnalso expressed in normal testis tissue. An alternative open readingnframe product of this gene has been described in PMID 10399963.nThis alternate protein, termed CAMEL, is a tumor antigen that isnrecognized by melanoma-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes. Alternatensplicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided bynRefSeq].
