- Tight junctions represent one mode of cell-to-cellnadhesion in epithelial or endothelial cell sheets, formingncontinuous seals around cells and serving as a physical barrier tonprevent solutes and water from passing freely through thenparacellular space. The protein encoded by this immunoglobulinnsuperfamily gene member is localized in the tight junctions betweennhigh endothelial cells.
