AKT3 is Ser/Thr Kinase that is activated by PIP2 produced by PI3K, leading to translocation of AKT3 to the plasma membrane where it can be activated by S/T phosphorylation by PDK1/2. It is a regulator of cell signalling events such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, tumourigenesis and also plays a role in brain development and in glucose metabolism, in response to insulin and a variety of growth factors such as PDGF and IGF-1. It is upregulated in a number of cancers.
