LYN is part of the SRC family of non-receptor protein tyrosine kinases that is predominantly expressed in haematopoietic tissues. LYN is involved in signal transduction from cell surface receptors that lack intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity. LYN is related with several cell surface receptors as well as B cell antigen receptor and immunoglobulin E receptor (FceRI). LYN is present in the majority of mediastinal B cell lymphomas. LYN amplification is related with malignant mixed tumor of salivary gland. LYN is involved in regulation of lipopolysaccharide priming in neutrophils. LYN inhibits nuclear export of the p53 tumor suppressor in breast neoplasms. LYN is involved in transduction of the TPO proliferative signal in a megakaryocyte cell line. The kinase domain of Lyn plays a role in Lyn trafficking besides catalysis of substrate phosphorylation. LYN is involved in control of proliferation and survival in most B-non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
