Unable to form K48 polyubiquitin chains and conjugates. Recombinant untagged protein

K48R ubiquitin, in which Lys48 has been mutated to arginine, is unable to form multi-ubiquitin chains via Lys48 linkages with other ubiquitin molecules, while preserving the ability to form an active thioester at the C-terminus and, therefore, the ability of K48R ubiquitin to be transferred to the lysines of substrate proteins.
